I penned an article for PaidContent about the changing face of media in 2011 and beyond.
“The brutal truth, rightly or wrongly is this: consuming news remains laborious and a significant time/space commitment, whatever your age or situation.” Read the rest of this entry »

I first saw this image [see thumbnail] when I worked in America (you know who you are!) which is why I am loving this presentation by Merlin Mann. Truth bomb central. Take heed though – as is said in slide 40 – some things will always be labeled as ‘career limiting behaviour’ and some things will plain just get you fired. Amazing speakers and free (for the most part) Fora.tv is a goldmine of information – here’s a great talk from the super-smart Jonah Lehrer on ‘Why we Decide’. If psychology or human behaviour isn’t your thing there’s plenty to choose from including culture, politics, the environment, technology and bum bum buuuuuuuh the economy. Lofty subjects and granted it’s not all easy to digest but the speakers make it engaging – I’ve yet to log on and find something that didn’t change the way you think about something. Danah Boyd displaying her badassness that’s what! (and thereby teaching me tons in the process). If you don’t know who Danah Boyd is you’ve probably never read anything about youth research or young people online. She’s a fascinating character that has made me think long and hard about all kinds of issues over the years. Now at Microsoft for some time she’s pretty much seen and done it all (but is still learning every day!) – she’s studied at MIT, written books, opened SXSW, sat on numerous panels and made more than a few smart cookies think deeply about important issues. It was going swimmingly until she didn’t answer any of my questions…
