I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: ‘Build your networks before you need them’.  I can’t count the amount of times I’m out and about and I get asked one of the following questions: How many followers is good?  How many fans will we get?  How many fans/followers is enough?  What should we put down for fans?  Is 1,000 fans doable in a week? You can’t deny either ladies’ history of controversy or use of the internet to push their projects but recently I’m seeing a much smarter use of social media from the pair (and the music labels in general).  Rather than protect and takedown it’s tease and release.  From multiple image and video teases, specific site breadcrumb postings, how-to, behind-the-scenes, reaction video batting-ness etc the game is being upped and I like it.  I like it not only because it uses the network loops and viral nature of controversial material but it uses the fans to juice the platforms not the other way around.  It’s creating a richer experience for all concerned – a story, a journey.  Would this work with every video out there?

Facebook wants you to 'Like' it.

So F8 has come and gone and there’s A LOT that was announced.  I’m still trawling through everything but here are the main plays (and they are MAIN plays):
1) ‘Like’ button: As it sounds, a button that indicates you like or ‘fan’ something, the big difference is that now you fan lots more stuff (including individual pages etc).  The big difference is that the connection then pulls data back to the website unless you tell it not to (more about that later).  Think of this as a huge data capture and recommendation engine being created – a LOT more content will now flow (both ways) through Facebook.
TAKEAWAY: Be careful what you like out there…
2)  Auto login capabilities: Basically this means if you are signed into Facebook and go to a site that has the auto-login plug-in installed you’ll get a variety of information tailored to you based on your profile, likes and friends recommendations.  Couple this with the Like button and you have an interesting/compelling user experience.  For example, it will tell you which of your friends also like the website you are on and what they recommended (or ‘like’).  You also have a lot more information that companies can use to market to you better…now and in the future.
TAKEAWAY: You might want to auto-sign out now every time you have been on Facebook…
