Why? Because although it has huge implications for your brands/you, you have a whole month (March 10th) to get used to the new design and update clients!  Lots more over at the usual suspects but the brief details are that Facebook is updating brand pages (i.e. fan pages) and pulling together the user-interface for users so they look more like a user’s profile/wall experience. Think no tabs (now on the left hand side), larger emphasis on photos (top), smarter admin rights etc – all in all this is a good thing.  But that’s not all…

I first saw this image [see thumbnail] when I worked in America (you know who you are!) which is why I am loving this presentation by Merlin Mann. Truth bomb central.  Take heed though – as is said in slide 40 – some things will always be labeled as ‘career limiting behaviour’ and some things will plain just get you fired. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there’s having a great idea and then there’s having a great idea that is on strategy.  Knowing the target AND the playing field will be even more important in 2011 as both evolve as platforms ‘mature’.  It’s more than traffic and engagement.  It’s time to be bold and know who you are there for, who gets to be ‘in’, who doesn’t, how you are going to serve them when the chosen ones are there and so forth.
